The Bitter Pill

50,000 watts of power … Got my radio on

About

The Bitter Pill is another useless blog put together by Tim Baxter, a Kansas City-based writer/webmaster. It was conceived as a way for me to spout off on the random stuff rattling around in my bean in a way that might annoy friends and family a bit less. Or at least take up less of their time.

In theory, it also exists as a laboratory/playground where I can try out the latest dumb ideas in CSS, JS, PHP, XHTML or some other arcane acronym to be referenced later. In practice, not a whole lot gets done, because there’s just never enough time. Maybe someday that will change. Maybe.

So who is this Tim Baxter guy, anyway, and why should I listen to him?

I’ve been mucking about on them Internets since 1994 or so and may have learned along the way. I’m also a semi-reformed journalist and spent a bit of time in the advertising/marketing trenches, which explains a few things, I suppose. I tend to obsess over usability, accessibility and modern marketing issues most people don’t worry about at all, which also explains a few things.

Besides this site, I attempt to run gretschpages.com, turn out some freelance writing and web work and hold a day job. If you’re interested in learning more, here’s the resume, or just drop a line and ask.

About the microphone:

The microphone photo was taken by Shane Kislack, an extremely talented photographer based in Dallas. You should hire him, if you can. Seriously. He’s good. I chose the photo because my career in media actually began in radio (I still have my FCC license), because I see this site as my mouthpiece to broadcast random thoughts to the world, because I’ve always loved the old Shure microphones, and because I really liked the warm, glowing quality Shane brought to the photograph.

Anything else of interest?

Probably not. If you’re into the typography thing, the fonts used are Kaufmann and Christiana, brought to life with sifr, and the site is built on my own hacked-up version of Wordpress.

So now that I’ve told you all that, if you’ve still got questions, or think you might want to commission me for some consulting/development/branding/usability or other work, just contact me.
