The Bitter Pill

I’m sure anybody who even thinks they’re anybody on the web has already heard, but Mike Davidson (of sIFR fame) is prepping his latest venture, Newsvine.

With absolutely no first-hand experience (and therefore absolutely no good reason you should listen to me), I have to say this Newsvine thing is intriguing. It appears to be a sort of cross between del.icio.us and digg, both of which are good web apps, but not right, if you know what I mean.

It’s interesting that Davidson and Co. are (already) distancing themselves from the Web 2.0 label. I have a feeling that one is going to go down as “sooooo 2005.”

One thing’s for sure, Davidson will get a hell of a buzz just by calling in sIFR favors. As he should. If it meets the hype, Newsvine will be one of the all-too-rare web apps: one that actually does something more than just impress geeks and early adopters.
